From Trade to Territory (The Company Establishes Power)

After the death of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb many Mughal governors (subadars) and big zamindars began asserting their authority and establishing regional kingdoms. The powerful regional kingdoms emerged in various parts of India, Delhi could no longer function as an effective centre.

This weak position and the opportunity was utilised by the British, who just came with the intention of trade and profit but eventually turned to be the rulers and conquerors of pan India.
